Petaluma Movers’ Tips on How to Move With Bad Weather

Even with a month to prepare for a move, you cannot be a 100% certain that nothing can go wrong during your moving day. There could be heavy rain, or the roads could be closed. Worst of all, there could be an accident.

When hiring Petaluma movers, you need to base your decision not just on the rates but also their ability to be resilient for any unforeseeable event.

Our movers at Good Green Moving have the experience and skills required to manage any delay or interruption during your move.

As a local company with many years in operation, we take into consideration weather changes or any road closures so that we can adjust our travel time and still arrive on schedule. As an extra precaution, here are some tips that you might want to consider in case of moving with bad weather.

  1. Preparation is Key

As always, preparation is key. You cannot leave everything to fate. At some point, you have to take charge and do whatever you have to do to prepare for bad weather. If the weather is going to be too warm, then you need to make sure that you stay hydrated and have a change of clothes in case you get sweaty. Since you will be spending some time outside, you should also put on sunscreen or wear a hat to protect your skin. If it’s wintertime and there will be heavy snow, then you have to be prepared to put on additional layers and maybe allot extra travel time. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes so you can move around easily.

  1.   Bring an Essentials Bag

An essentials bag should contain basic toiletries, a change of clothes, extra blankets, food and drinks, emergency light, and possibly a first aid kit. If you are going to drive all night and decided to book a hotel for the night, it would be nice to have a change of clothes and basic toiletries to freshen up. Moving day itself is going to be hectic, and you might forget to eat. Packing several sandwiches and snacks for you and the Petaluma movers can make the day feel a lot lighter and give you more energy to brace the day.

  1.   Extra Protection for Your Items

In case of heavy rain or snow, you have to put extra padding on your furniture and appliances, so they don’t get damaged. You should also store your electronics and wires on an airtight storage box to protect them from getting ruined. If you have access to waterproof storage bins, and plastic wrap, then you should use them to secure your books, clothes, and sheets.

  1.   Install Utilities

When you arrive at your new place, you still have to unpack, and that could take a couple of hours or maybe even a day. It would be nice to have your heater running during a cold night. If you need entertainment, you can plug your TV, sit back, and try to relax before you face another busy day ahead. Before you store your kitchenware on the shelves, you can give them a good rinse with clean water.
