What’s Poppin in Petaluma, CA? We think that Petaluma is a pretty fantastic place and we tend to spend quite a bit of time in this Sonoma County city during our off hours. Read on for our suggestions of places to go to in nearby Petaluma, CA.

Downtown Petaluma

So much of the San Francisco Bay Area consists of recently built buildings so it’s a treat to explore an old fashioned downtown like the one that you’ll find in Petaluma. Luckily for Petaluma, the city sits on bedrock that has successfully warded off earthquake damage throughout the years. The result is a historic downtown area that features fifteen blocks of architecturally rich buildings that dates to the early twentieth century.

A  visit to the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum is a terrific way to learn about how Petaluma has developed over time. Housed in a Carnegie Library, the building shimmers with a beautiful glass ceiling dome that is thought to be the largest free-standing still in existence in Northern California. There is no charge to enter the museum, and it’s well worth checking out the exciting exhibits that tell the story of Petaluma.

A significant part of our job consists of helping people to pack the items that bring joy to their lives, and we encourage you to drop by the Petaluma Collective to find that unique piece that makes you smile and reach for your wallet. The Petaluma Collective displays an enormous variety of collectibles and antiques put up for sale by more than twenty dealers. What’s more, there is a fantastic Military Antiques Shop and Museum in the basement.

Petaluma Nature

Once you’ve had your fill of downtown Petaluma, we hope that you’ll put on some sunscreen and head outdoors. Sonoma County will awe you with some of the most beautiful countrysides in the Bay Area, and you’re never far from outstanding outdoor spaces when you visit Petaluma.

One of our favorite places in Petaluma is Schollenberger Park. This wetlands park features an approximately four-mile loop trail that will beckon you to get out of the car to immerse yourself in nature. Schollenberger Park attracts crowds of bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts. Make sure that you bring along your fishing equipment as there is a fishing pier located at the park.

If you’re lucky enough to spot some wildlife during your time at the park and want to delve into more about the animals that share our surroundings in the Bay Area, it’s time for a visit to Wildlife Rescue Sonoma County. A group of local volunteers began the organization in the early 1980s, and this worthwhile non-profit has expanded over the years to include marine mammal and raptor rehabilitation facilities. The public is welcome on Saturday tours, and you’ll even have the opportunity to bring home some of the organic produce grown on site.

Lastly, we hope that you’ll soon discover some of the many exciting places to go to in nearby Petaluma, CA. From its lively historic downtown to its gorgeous parklands, you’re sure to find a variety of things to do that will make your visit complete.
